Details: A senior housing proposal for the corner of France Avenue and West 65th Street in Edina appears near the finish in its approval process.
The Edina Planning Commission this month approved the final plans and rezoning for Aurora on France, a 195-unit “continuum of care” senior housing project from Mount Development. The five-story building will go in the intersection’s now-vacant southwest quadrant. Edina City Council will give final consideration.
Developer Stephen Michaels said he’s targeting a spring construction start for the 277,577-square-foot structure.
The Metropolitan Council also this month approved inclusion of senior housing uses within Edina’s medical district comprehensive plan around Fairview Hospital.
The Ebenezer Society, a subsidiary of Fairview Health Services, has been tapped as the operator for Aurora on France, which has been planned in part to work in conjunction with the hospital to provide long-term nursing care options for its patients.
The specs call for the full range of senior housing types, including 100 units of independent living, 54 units of transitional/skilled nursing care, 34 memory care units and seven “care suites.”
The building, designed by architect Edward Farr, boasts a distinctive, backlit crown. A skyway will connect it to the hospital parking ramp, which links to the hospital by another skyway.
